Career Academy
The Hospitality and Golf Leadership Academy is a CIS initiative involving students from all three Moore County high schools and the local business community. The purpose of the academy is to create a learning experience where students are immersed in the golf and hospitality industry through educational, experiential and internship opportunities. Our belief is that when students are engaged in small focused learning groups, provided with relevance in their learning and close adult relationships we are giving the students and our community the promise of a better future. Working with local businesses and organizations CIS promotes community involvement in training and nurturing students in an industry that offers many rewarding career opportunities. CIS partners with Pinehurst, The First Tee Program, National Golf Club, The Convention & Business Bureau, Sandhills Career Education Council, JobLink, Sandhills Community College, Sandhills Hospitality Association, Moore County Schools and the local business community to provide insight into the hospitality industry. In 2005 -2006 CIS partnered with MCS and SCC to provide a curriculum for the students to be eligible , if the criteria are met, to receive one (1) high school credit and up two (2) college credits.

North Carolina Governor’s Page Program
CISNC provides local CIS Hospitality and Golf Leadership Academy students the opportunity to spend a week in Raleigh as a Governor’s Page to learn the roles and functions of state government. Pages are assigned to a cabinet level agency or Council of State office within the state government complex to assist employees with various tasks. In addition to their daily responsibilities, Pages have the opportunity to attend press conferences, tour several historic landmarks including the State Capitol, the Legislative Building, the Executive Mansion, the Supreme Court and the NC Correctional Institute for Women; participate in service projects and meet Governor Easley. To date fifteen (15) CIS Hospitality & Golf Leadership Academy students have participated in this event.
The First Tee Program
CIS and the First Tee Program partner to provide golf instruction and a character building program to the Hospitality and Golf Academy students. The First Tee has established Nine Core Values that represent some of the many inherently positive values connected with the game of golf: honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy, and judgment. Students are provided a field trip to visit a local golf course at the end of each session.
EAA Young Eagles Program
Moore Regional Airport invites CIS Hospitality and Golf Academy students to participate in the Young Eagles Program. This program offers students the opportunity to experience flight. The experience of flight provides students with a new perspective on their world and “may even inspire students to realize that when it comes to human potential, there are no limits”. Students enjoy an air craft show, fly with licensed pilots and tour Moore County by air. Each student receives a certificate and information about the requirements for flight. www.eaa.org
“Iron Chef” Competition
The CIS IRON Chef Competition will be an entertaining team building exercise that is designed to give the teens from the CIS Golf & Hospitality Academy an overview of what it is like in the culinary world. The object is to expose them to a high pressure commercial kitchen environment, teach them about teamwork, and give them a little taste of what it is like to be a chef for a day.
