Communities In Schools (CIS) is the nation’s largest dropout prevention organization. CIS provides or coordinates services that address the underlying reasons why students leave school without a diploma. CIS implements a community-based integrated student services strategy, leveraging community resources where they are most needed – in schools.
Community based integrated services are interventions that improve student achievement by connecting community resources with both the academic and social-service needs of students. Such interventions focus programmatic energy, resources and time on shared school and student goals. Asset-building resources such as health initiatives, career education, school supplies, summer camps and school safety are made available to all students. Targeted and sustained intervention services are provided to those students in need of a little extra help to be successful; mentoring, tutoring, after-school programs and healthy kids camps.
CIS focuses on mentoring, career education, health initiatives and community outreach.
