Career Academy

img_0410The Career Academy is a Communities In Schools of Moore County (CISMC) program involving students from all three Moore County high schools and the local business community.

The purpose of the career academy is to create a learning experience where students are immersed in career opportunities in the hospitality and tourism industry through educational, outreach and internship opportunities. We believe when students are engaged in small focused learning groups, provided with relevance in their learning and close adult relationships we are giving the students and our community the promise of a better future.

Working with local businesses and organizations CISMC promotes community involvement in training and nurturing students in an industry that offers many rewarding career opportunities. CISMC  partners with Pinehurst, The First Tee Program, National Golf Club, The Convention & Business Bureau, Sandhills Career Education Council, JobLink, Sandhills  Community College, Sandhills Hospitality Association, Moore County Schools and the local business community to provide insight into the hospitality industry.

North Carolina Governor’s Page Program

CISNC provides local CISMC Career Academy students the opportunity to spend a week in Raleigh as a Governor’s Page to learn the roles and functions of state government. Pages are assigned to a cabinet level agency or Council of State office within the state government complex to assist employees with various tasks. In addition to their daily responsibilities, Pages have the opportunity to attend press conferences, tour several historic landmarks including the State Capitol, the Legislative Building, the Executive Mansion, the Supreme Court and the NC Correctional Institute for Women; participate in service projects and meet Governor Easley.

The First Tee Program

The First Tee has established Nine Core Values that represent some of the many inherently positive values connected with the game of golf – honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy, and judgment. Students are provided a field trip to visit a local golf course at the end of each session.

EAA Young Eagles Program

Moore Regional Airport invites CISMC Career Academy students to participate in the Young Eagles Program. This program offers students the opportunity to experience flight. The experience of flight provides students with a new perspective on their world and “may even inspire students to realize that when it comes to human potential, there are no limits”.  Students enjoy an air craft show, fly with licensed pilots and tour Moore County by air. Each student receives a certificate and information about the requirements for flight. For more information about the Young Eagles Program, visit them online at www.eaa.org.
