Sandhills Community College and Communities In Schools’ FirstSchool Garden Program present the region’s first environmental and sustainable living exposition, the EverGreen Expo, on February 17th, 2011 from 10 am to 4 pm in the Dempsey Community Center on the college’s campus. The one day event will be an expansion of the college’s Green Summit and highlight a wide range of eco-living and sustainability topics. EverGreen is a hands-on, solution driven event designed to educate people of all ages and backgrounds about environmentally friendly and sustainable resources in their local community.

EverGreen will offer a variety of exhibits, demonstrations and activities to create awareness of issues facing our community and inspire attendees to “green” their world. Guest speakers, Master Gardeners and vendors will showcase environmental solutions already being used locally such as edible landscapes, green construction, urban farming, water conservation tools and green products. Communities In Schools’ FirstSchool Garden Program and area health providers will also conduct workshops and share resources covering healthy lifestyle choices. In addition to health screenings, cooking demonstrations using fresh and local foods, and holistic practices, the Communities In Schools’ GoTeam, composed of teen health ambassadors, will keep the crowd moving and grooving with their high-energy program combining healthy foods and physical activity.

Organizations, community groups or businesses that would like to participate in the event as a vendor or instructor should contact Lori Williams from Sandhills Community College at williamslo@sandhills.edu or (910) 246-4943 for more information and a registration form. A suggested $30 donation will help cover operating costs for the EverGreen Expo. Donations are tax-deductible and should be made payable to: Sandhills Community College Foundation, PO Box 1189, Pinehurst, NC 28374. Additional information about the event will be posted on the college’s website, www.sandhills.edu, in the “About SCC section” under “Green Initiatives” and the CIS FirstSchool Garden’s website at www.firstschoolgarden.org.
